about Locust Street Park
The Locust Street Park Improvements project represents the transformation of a long-standing neighborhood park into a modern community destination for the Erlanger. In 2022, Viox & Viox was selected to prepare a concept plan to reimagine the aging park, which had remained largely unchanged for decades. What once consisted of an outdated basketball court, swing set, monkey bars, slide, and open field is now being transformed into a vibrant, multi-use recreational space for residents of all ages, with Phase 1 construction scheduled for 2026.
The redesigned park introduces a wide range of new amenities, including separate playgrounds for ages 2–5 and 5–12, a merry-go-round, park-grade musical instruments, swings, a gaga ball pit, drinking fountain, picnic shelter, and food truck hookups to support future community events. Athletic facilities were also modernized by converting the existing full basketball court into a half basketball court and dedicated pickleball court, creating more flexible recreational opportunities within the existing footprint.
One of the primary project challenges involved numerous existing utilities crossing through the site, requiring careful coordination and creative design solutions to maximize recreational space while maintaining utility access and clearances.
Viox & Viox provided land surveying, civil engineering, landscape architecture, bidding assistance, construction administration, construction inspection, and 3D rendering services used for public engagement and marketing efforts. Electrical engineering services were provided by H.A.L.P.E. Associates.
