about KY 18 Overpass Gateway

The KY 18 Overpass Gateway project is located at the I-71/75 overpass on KY 18 in Florence, Kentucky. The project transformed the existing bridge fencing along the south side of the overpass, adjacent to the pedestrian sidewalk, into a distinctive gateway that reflects the identity of the City of Florence.

Viox & Viox provided landscape architecture design services for the decorative gateway structure. The new installation meets all current safety standards for bridge fencing while enhancing the visual appeal and character of this highly traveled corridor. Viox & Viox worked closely with the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet (KYTC) to obtain design and maintenance-of-traffic approvals and coordinated an overnight installation to minimize traffic impacts on both I-71/75 and KY 18.

The project team included Stantec as the electrical engineer, AGE as the structural engineer, SSRG as the contractor, Stewart Iron Works as the fabricator, and AA Safety for traffic control.
