about burlington commons

Construction wrapped up in July 2020 on what is a new downtown park and plaza in the heart of Burlington, Kentucky.  Burlington Commons is a 1-acre public space located along KY 18 at the gateway into downtown Burlington.  The property is located directly across from the Boone County Courthouse and Administration Building, making it an ideal location to create a community park and plaza.

Viox & Viox created multiple conceptual designs before settling on the current master plan. The goal during the design process was to create a space that the community could utilize for outdoor events and as a place of respite for those who visit or work in downtown Burlington.  Viox & Viox worked with the county through the planning and design process to program the space and incorporate the county’s “wish list” of amenities.  The design team also took into consideration the surrounding historic district while developing the conceptual drawings. 

After the county and design team finalized the vision for the project, Viox & Viox completed the construction drawings and specifications.  Services included surveying, civil engineering, and landscape architecture for the park. Tasks included site layout, grading, drainage, erosion control, utility design, and landscape design. Viox & Viox also provided construction administration and construction staking for the project.

Phase 1 of the project included a gateway sign water feature, streetscape, oval lawn amphitheater, patio seating areas, utilities, lighting, and landscaping.
