In 2018, Viox & Viox was hired by Hometown Concrete to design a concrete plant, car and truck parking lot, a detention basin, and all site utilities on a 7.75-acre site on Dixie Highway (U.S. 25) in Florence, Kentucky. This was the first plant for Hometown Concrete, but they hope to expand their service area and add additional plants in the future.

There was an existing detention basin on the property that was designed to treat storm water from the property to the north. This basin did not perform to current design regulations, so Viox & Viox designed a forebay detention basin that treats the Hometown Concrete development and outlets into the existing basin.

In 2020, Hometown Concrete acquired the property to the south to expand the plant.  They converted an existing house into the plant office, and Viox & Viox added an ADA accessible ramp to both entrances in the front of the building, as well as an ADA accessible route to the back entrance. Hometown Concrete also added a 6,340 sf maintenance and storage building, an employee parking lot, a customer parking lot, and additional truck parking spaces.

As part of this expansion project, Viox & Viox added an entrance-only driveway into the site and converted the original entrance into an exit-only. We worked with the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet (KYTC) for approval of this project.  The addition of the impervious area required expansion of the existing detention basin.  The Viox team worked with Hometown Concrete to maintain operation of the plant during the 2020 expansion.  Viox & Viox provided surveying, civil engineering, landscape architecture and staking services for both phases of this project.
